🇮🇳 Saluting the Women Who Fought for India’s Freedom

Warm wishes and congratulations to every Indian on the proud occasion of Independence Day!

As we celebrate the 80th Independence Day, let us pause to remember the courage, sacrifice and determination of those who fought to make our freedom possible.

The contribution of our brave women to India’s freedom struggle was immense. They did not merely stand alongside the movement—they led it, shaped it and, in many cases, paid an extraordinary price for the freedom we enjoy today.

Some picked up the sword, some took up the pen,
Some lit the lamp of truth, some became the flame of revolution.

Names like Rani Lakshmibai, Begum Hazrat Mahal, Sarojini Naidu, Aruna Asaf Ali, Usha Mehta, Madam Bhikaji Cama and Captain Lakshmi Sahgal are written in golden letters in the history of India's freedom struggle. Each fought in her own way, with her own weapon and her own vision of a free India.

Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi became an immortal symbol of courage during the Revolt of 1857. Begum Hazrat Mahal led the resistance in Awadh and stood firmly against British rule.

Sarojini Naidu, the Nightingale of India, used her powerful voice and leadership to inspire millions. Aruna Asaf Ali became a symbol of defiance during the Quit India Movement when she boldly hoisted the Congress flag at Gowalia Tank Maidan in Bombay.

Usha Mehta carried the message of freedom through the secret Congress Radio, keeping the voice of resistance alive despite British censorship. Madam Bhikaji Cama took India's call for independence beyond its shores and became one of the earliest international voices for Indian freedom.

And Captain Lakshmi Sahgal, as a prominent leader of the Rani of Jhansi Regiment of the Indian National Army, inspired women to step forward and take an active role in the struggle for India's independence.

Yet, beyond these celebrated names were thousands of women whose stories remain largely untold. They joined protests, courted arrest, boycotted foreign goods, supported underground movements, sheltered revolutionaries and inspired their families and communities to stand for freedom.

To those whose names are etched in history, we offer countless salutations.
And to those who remained unnamed for centuries, we offer our heartfelt salute.

Their stories remind us that India's freedom was not won by a few individuals. It was the collective courage of millions—men and women, known and unknown—that shaped our destiny.

This Independence Day, as the Tricolour rises with pride, let us remember the women who helped make that moment possible.

Their courage lit the flame of freedom.
Their sacrifices strengthened the nation.
Their dreams became our reality.
