Lord Hanuman Helps DC - Part II

DC at the City

Having recovered the body, DC and his staff went to the city. First, they sent the MK's body for a post-mortem at the government hospital in an ambulance. Next, the experts checked the fingerprints on the tools and the stick. The fingerprints on the tools were different from those on the stick.

That confirmed that there were two people at the site where MK's body was found.

Now, the questions before DC are to find

1. Who killed MK?

 2. Where did GR go?

3. What happened to the Treasure?

4. Who is the other person?

DC sent one of the SIs to collect the post-mortem report.

The post-mortem report stated that the death resulted from a blow to the back of the head with a wooden stick. The stick used might have had small surface projections that created a dent in the skull. There were striking marks on the medulla oblongata. The death was instantaneous, due to several blows at crucial points on the head.

DC became serious and said, "We must find out who such a cruel culprit is and bring him to the gallows."

*

GR tries to sell Gold Coins.

All the police stations informed the gold shops under their jurisdiction that anyone who brought gold coins from the Shatavahana period must report to the police.

A gold shop owner reported to the nearest police station that a villager had brought in about 10 gold coins for sale yesterday. He did not buy them.

SI went to the shop and collected the CCTV footage. The person was wearing a kurta and dhothi, with an unshaven beard and moustache, forehead wrinkles, untrimmed hair, and a brownish-black complexion. He sent the photo to the sarpanch. The sarpanch identified him as GR. They sent the photo to all police stations and gold shops in the city and announced it on TV news.

One barber shop owner reported to the nearest police station that he had shaved this person's beard and trimmed his hair the day before.

*

GR changes his attire.

GR first sold all MK's gold ornaments in the city. He was spending that money on his luxuries.

GR went to another small gold shop that lends money against gold. He showed the coins. The shop owner knew their value. He immediately paid the prevailing gold price and bought the ten gold coins. He also told him to bring more of them. Both were happy.

DC got suspicious about this person in a suit moving around the gold shops. And leaving happily.

DC reviewed this CC camera footage and sent it to the police IT department to check for common facial features between the earlier photo of GR and the footage.   They compared the two using AI technology and confirmed 95% similarity. The face and nose share a similar shape. There is a slight variation in the lips.

DC asked SI to take GR under control.

From the gold shop, he went to a hotel for lunch. When he came out of the hotel, the police took him into custody and produced him before the DC for enquiry.

With the money GR earned from selling gold ornaments, he bought a modern suit, a mobile phone and a wristwatch. He rented a 2BHK apartment.

*

SI Interrogates GR.

DC asked the SI to enquire. They began questioning in English. He could not understand and asked them to speak the local language. The SI questioned in polished local language. He answered in rough village language. The SI asked him to write his name. He said he was illiterate. The SI understood that this person was from the village and must be GR.

The SI used the police methods. That person accepted that his name is GR and that he hails from HG, near NP.

He was produced before DC.

DC to GR: Where did you get the gold coins?

GR: I met MK on the bus. She came to HG in search of the Treasure. She sought my help.

I told her not to venture into these Treasures at this young age. She insisted. As I had no children and my wife died, I thought of her as God-given daughter, and wanted to help her search. I knew she had come without informing her parents.

We went to HG that night and found the Treasure. We were transferring the treasure coins into her backpack. She was holding the bag open while I was transferring gold coins into it.

MK was killed by an unknown Person.

By that time, suddenly, a young person appeared and struck her with a stick on the back of her head. She cried and fell on the ground.

I was shocked by this sudden event, kept the gold coin pot on the ground, and lifted my head to see him, but he had disappeared into the woods.

I was terrified by the girl MK's sudden death. For a moment, I thought of leaving everything there and returning to the hut, but my greed for gold coins would not permit it.

I collected all the gold coins into the backpack. I pitied the girl for her miserable death and thought of burying her. I removed her gold chain, earrings, and a hand ring, dug a pit and buried the body of MK. I prayed for her soul to rest in peace.

Then I came to the city and sold the ornaments here. I got shaved, trimmed my hair, and changed my attire so that nobody could recognise me. But you police people traced me.

*

Police Search GR's Flat

DC asked SI to search his flat. They got the rest of the gold coins.

GR has shown the gold shop that purchased the coins. The police arrested the shop owner.

One SI informed MK's parents about her death and took them to the mortuary for identification. They identified the body as that of their daughter. The police handed the body over to the parents.

*

MK's Funeral Arrangements

DC was confused about not knowing the person who killed MK. This person was not interested in the gold coins. If it is not money, what else could be the reason to kill?

All print and visual media outlets prominently announced MK's death in their coverage. MK's parents were preparing to perform the funeral rites. Their relatives were shocked at learning the death of an intelligent and beautiful girl, MK. All of them turned to console MK's parents. MK's classmates were shocked at her death and wanted to pay their last respects to her. There was a large crowd in front of MK's house.

DC, a SI, and two constables, all in mufti, were present at MK's house. A constable holding the sniffer dog was there. People thought they were the neighbours. They were sitting in chairs and observing.

The sniffer dog went to a youth in the crowd. He cursed it and hushed it to go. People were looking at him. The dog was adamant. It neither feft him nor barked at him. It grabbed his pants and tried to drag him.

*

Sniffer Dog Identifies the Killer

Constable came and took the dog and the youth to the side. The youth said, "You need to control your dog."

The youth had doubts about this person and said, "I am going, I have to attend to other problems and started leaving the place".

The mufti SI came and caught his hand tightly. The fist on his hand was so tight that the youth could not twist his hand. The young fellow understood that he was under police control.

Someone in the crowd came to the youth and asked, "Hi, Atul Kumar (AK), shall we go?"

SI said, "AK will come after some time. You can go."

The SI took him to DC. DC ordered that he be interrogated in the police station.

*

Police Interrogate AK

At the police station, the constables interrogated him using their specialist methods. He was afraid he might die. He revealed that he had killed MK at the HG.

I loved MK with all my heart, but she was in love with another person. I could not bear it and planned to kill her. He learned through a friend that she was going to HG to find the Treasure. I followed her, hid at the site, observed MK and GR and killed her.

*

Court Punishes AK and GR

The police recorded AK's statement. He was found guilty of MK's murder. GR was found guilty of possessing Shatavahana-period gold coins. AK and GR were punished.

The gold coins were handed over to the government.

*

Higher Officials Congratulate DC and his team.

Senior officials of the police department appreciated the DC and the team members for successfully identifying the culprits, recovering the Shatavahana-period gold coins, and bringing them to justice. All the print and electronic media reported the news in their headlines.

Everybody congratulated DC and his team.

DC thanked Lord Hanuman.

The End.
