Book Review
When I received the book ‘Songs of Water’, I thought it is a collection of poems on water but it is not.
‘Songs of Water’ is a lucid, easy-flowing fiction written on a very relevant topic – water scarcity. Water scarcity is no longer a thing of the past or future; it’s a stark reality staring at us. Through this story, the author has beautifully woven the impact of water in abundance and scarcity on human life. A book worth the time and money to feel and live the characters of this story and how people conduct themselves in crisis-every emotion touched upon in trying situations and at the end it’s about Hope.
The story is about two sisters Megha and Suhani who live in a drought-affected village in Maharashtra, their lives are entwined with the daily challenges of saving every drop of water. Both sisters have different perspectives on facing the challenge. The story is built beautifully and is full of emotions, and drama yet realistic, holding the readers till the end.
Reading the book felt like experiencing a true life story, yet the storyline is full of fiction, turns and twists, it was a non-stop read for me. A love story with cause, with characters one can resonate with. The character of Megha is as interesting as Suhani’s, both sisters come out as winners at the end of the story.
The book is an easy read, but it makes a lot of thinking. All the characters of the story- the two sisters Suhani and Megha, and the supporting characters mother, Neer, and Pulkit are well sketched and they stay with you for many days…
A must-read book for those who relish reading soft stories with true human emotions.
