SHIBI’s DIARY
My name is SHIBI, I am 6 months old Beagle puppy and this is my diary. In this diary, I shall write about my life. You may question, ‘Can dogs write? What stories do they have to tell? They only eat, sleep and bark.’
‘Yess…Why dogs cannot have stories? Are we not living beings? Do we not go through tough times? Is our life honky-dory always as they show in movies?’

Part 8- SHIBI hui NAMKEEN
Sunday is my day as I get maximum time to play with Papa and Big Bro, and today was Sunday. Everyone was relaxing after heavy lunch. Momma and Papa were taking an afternoon nap and Big-Bro was on his laptop, and me? I wanted to go out.
I made squeaking sounds but Big-Bro hardly noticed. He was munching chicken nuggets, hardly realising, that I had eaten most of them. Soon he came to know that the plate is empty, and he looked at me angrily.
I shouted, ‘Woof! Woof! I am bored! Every day you take me either to the juice centre or for icecreams, why don’t you take me to some nicer place?’
He said, ‘SHIBI, you are forgetting that you are a dog, and you are not welcome at most places.’
‘But why?’ I shouted. This fact always troubled me, as to why I am not allowed to enter most of the places. Why humans are not inclusive?
Big Bro did not answer, I knew he was probably thinking, and then he smiled, ‘Let us go to the beach!’
‘Beach?’ I remembered my visit to the beach when I visited the big city. I was so scared, I did not liked the huge waves. The idea did not fascinate me. I lowered my head.
But Big-Bro was very excited, and he said, ‘Yes!!! Shibi beach…!’
I showed my puppy eyes to tell him that I am not up to his idea of going to the beach. I was thinking about the long journey and the hotel where I had stayed.
Probably the Big-Bro understood, he said, ‘Shibi, we are not going to the big city! Don’t you know that we live in a coastal city, we have a beach close by!’
‘Woof, Woof, How would I know?’ I barked. But I was a bit pacified to hear that I don’t have to take a long journey but then I remembered the huge waves and I was nervous.
He said, ‘Are you scared of Sea? You timid one!’
I immediately shook my body and stood up.
He laughed, ‘That’s better!’
Next, I know, we all — momma, papa big bro and me, were in the car and headed to the beach. The beach was indeed close by as Big-Bro had said, we reached there in just 15 minutes.
As soon we reached the beach, Big-Bro and I ran on the sand to touch the water but as soon I reached near to it, I was again scared and I started running backwards, but Big brother pulled me in the water.
Wow! Not bad! I really liked the feel of water on my feet. Soon I was into the sea water, coming out, going in, swimming, and dancing. I did not want to come out of the water at all!
Big-Bro laughed at my eagerness. Momma said, ‘SHIBI Samundar main namkeen ho gayi hain!’ (Shibi has become salty in the sea)
Big brother brought some icecream candy for everyone. I had fallen in love with icecream at the beach of the Big City. What is the connection between the beach and Ice-creams? Any idea?
Big-Bro and I walked on the beach, I was busy sniffing every shell and urchin on the beach, while Big-Bro was busy taking photos. Soon the sun went down, and it was all dark all around, with the lighthouse’s light only lighting in the area. We too return home. But the ending of such an exciting adventure in water was not so great. After returning, I had to take bath, and at night it rained heavily. I felt so cold, and the next day, I fell sick and slept the whole day…..!
(with Big-Bro)
I understood lesson of life – once bitten that does not mean, you should not try second time ! I realized my love for the water, I love swimming, I love the sea, and I love the smell of sea elements in the air. I may be small but I am ready to take up any challenge!!
