SHIBI’s DIARY
My name is SHIBI, I am 6 months old Beagle puppy and this is my diary. In this diary, I shall write about my life. You may question, ‘Can dogs write? What stories do they have to tell? They only eat, sleep and bark.’
‘Yess…Why dogs cannot have stories? Are we not living beings? Do we not go through tough times? Is our life honky-dory always as they show in movies?’

Part 7 – A long drive, and stay at Taj Hotel!
The D-day came, finally, when we started our long 1200 km journey. I was told, it was going to be two days journey to Jharkhand, with a night halt at Bhubaneswar, each day around a 10-hour drive.
Deep inside, I was anxious, equally eager to see how would be my journey. I think everyone was worried about how I would cope. Though for the last few days, Big Bro was taking me out in a Jeep for 1-2 hours to get me prepared for the long journey.
But it was not a rosy journey to start with. Two days before the journey, I started bleeding. I was scared to see the blood around me. Everyone was worried and panicked. Papa made frantic calls to the doctor. The doctor told him not to worry as it was my first period!!!
I was on my first heat, but I guess it was nothing to celebrate about. Momma and Papa were deeply worried about how they would take me on such a long journey with me bleeding but my Big-bro, the kindest heart on earth, and who loves me most, cuddled me, ‘Shibi, you are grown up now. Don’t worry, you will be okay. I am there for you.’ I felt loved and cared for. I was no longer worried.
The day before the journey was very hectic. Momma showed me three bags which she had packed for me. I wondered, what is there in those bags? what is my need? Only a small bowl to eat that’s it, even that is not needed. Inside those three bags were my quilt, bed sheets, towel, toiletries, pads, medicine and dog food. I hate dog food…!
At night I saw them still packing by the time I went to sleep. I was fast asleep when I was pushed inside the Jeep. I opened my eyes and noticed it was very dark. I guessed it was midnight or maybe very early morning. Soon the luggage was put in. Papa had purchased a bed for me, which was not at all comfortable for me, so most of the time, I was in momma’s lap.
I had presumed the drive won’t be worse for me if not good, but it was. I could feel uneasiness in my stomach. I decided to keep my eyes closed, and sleep. I did not eat or even drink anything. After every few hours, Papa would stop and take me out for a walk. He was worried that I have not eaten anything since morning. So, in the afternoon, he stopped the vehicle near a roadside tea stall and offered me Tea-biscuits. I could not resist. I love tea. Every morning I also get my share of tea, when momma and papa have their tea. After having Tea, I smiled. I could feel some energy inside, and I started running around. Papa was happy to see me play!
Soon, we again were inside the Jeep, and I went to sleep.
‘Shibi, wake up, get down!’ I heard the Big Bro’s shout and sheepishly opened my eyes. I saw him taking out the luggage from the Jeep. I jumped out and saw we were in front of a big building. After some time, all the luggage was taken out, and we entered the building.
To my surprise, a woman came to me and hugged me, soon many others came and cuddled me. I was excited, who doesn’t love attention? I started jumping from one human to another.
They asked my name, and Big Bro proudly said, ‘SHIBI’.
Big Bro then told me, ‘Shibi, this is a hotel. Taj Vivanta We will stay here tonight They are hotel staff.’
The staff talked to me , cuddled me, some even took photos. Most of them had dogs, I could smell from their body, the dog smell!
I looked around, the hotel was big and very spacious. It was not at all like the hotel I had stayed in previously. We went to our room, which too was large and spacious. I liked the room and kept bouncing on the bed, running from one side of the room to another.
I saw there was a beautiful bed for me too, a dog bed! I tried to sleep on it but the smell was unfamiliar, I tried to dig inside to get a smell of me. Big Bro saw me attempting to tear off the bed, he took it from me and kept it outside the room.
I looked at him angrily, and barked, ‘where am I going to sleep?’
‘Shut up and behave, this is not your home. Do not try to tear off everything here.’ Big Bro scolded me.
I rolled my eyes and barked again, ‘But, where I am going to sleep?’
He pointed to the floor.
I was sad. The bed was beautiful, only it did not have my smell, and I was trying to make it mine, why humans cannot understand this funda of dogs?
Next came the lunch, though it was already evening. We all were hungry. I was so happy to see the chicken and rice for me. The hotel provided a special chicken meal for me, that too free. I loved it. What a large portion it was! I had my stomach full; I burped and went into a deep sleep. A good meal after a long journey demands a good sleep 😉
Soon everyone was fast asleep.
Evening, we went out for an easy and breezy walk. There was a shopping mall close by. But because of me, momma and papa too could not go inside. That is one thing I don’t like. Why dogs are not allowed at all places? Why not all places are pet friendly, like the Taj Vivanta?
We returned to the hotel after having ice-creams and sat in the lobby for some time watching all the guests transiting in and out. Many came to me and talked to me.
We retired early to bed, as morning again we had to start, it was another 10-hour drive.Throughout the evening, Big Bro was missing, where he was? I was curious! He told me at night, that he had gone swimming and for some fun time!
The next day, as we started, Big Bro asked me, ‘Shibi, what did you like about the hotel?’
‘Woof-Woof, the chicken meal!’ I said, and looked back at the hotel, as the Jeep moved out of it, ‘Thank You Taj Vivanta BBSR, for making me feel at home.’
