Part 11 : dew and the Mist
Predator and the Prey!
Early morning when Kusum woke up and looked besides, she could not find Nihar. She remembered last night events and anger crept in. Her eyes stared at the ceiling, at the walls of the room, they were witnesses to what happened in this room last night.
Disgusted, she shrugged off and jumped out of the bed, she went for a bath, wanting to remove each impression of his on her body, wanting to remove each moment of their togetherness from her remembrance. The cool water from the shower simply ran down from her head to toes but it was of no help, and she started sobbing which turned into loud cries.
‘Kusumita…’ she heard a loud knock on the door. She quickly splashed water on her face, wrapped a towel around and came out to find Nihar waiting for her.
She looked at him, he was not at all like what she had seen last night. He looked calm now, the way she had known him before last night.
He got up, as he saw her. He lowered his eyes and then looked into her eyes, and said, ‘Kusumita, I am sorry for last night.’
She felt the anger in her spine. She couldn’t hold her anger any longer and started throwing at him whatever came in her hand. Her chappal, cushions, pillows, and whatever else she could get hold of. He tried to escape first but then he came closer and clasped her hands back, holding her tightly. She struggled as his both hands firmly went around her.
‘Listen, I am sorry.’ He spoke.
‘So, you are sorry, really?’ She fumed.
‘Yes….!’ he looked in her eyes with his smile like a child; she would have given in if she chose to forget what she had seen in his eyes last night. She angrily stared him back and tried to release herself from his embrace but then he tightened his grip more and made her look straight in his eyes. It angered her more, and she bit him hard on his shoulder, and he cried in great pain and released her.
She fumed as her eyes turned red, ‘Don’t dare to do it again with me…!’
‘Sure, but your bath towel….’ And the kid like smile returned on his face.
She quickly looked for her towel, it had fallen on the floor; She picked it up and swiftly wrapped it around her. He heartily laughed at her hurriedness and then left the room.
Confused, she sat on the bed. Was it him the previous night? He was so adamant and like a wild animal, he had forced himself on her without caring about her feelings!
The day passed by in daily chores; she did not get any time to think about it. But after dinner when she lay down on the bed, closed her eyes to relax, but even after many tries she was not able to forget the bipolar behaviour. In the morning like a kid, he came and said sorry, cared that she might be upset.
Soon she heard the opening of the door and through the corners of her eyes, she saw him entering inside. She closed her eyes more tightly and pretended to be in deep sleep.
But she could sense his every step towards her. He came closer to her, and sat near her on the edge of the bed. His hands then went through her hair. She was terrified and closed her eyes even more tightly. . Then she felt the air near her lips heat up, she quickly got up.
‘Kusumita, I thought you were asleep.’
‘Why are you here?’ Like a terrified rabbit, she asked in a hurried tone.
‘Are you still upset with me?’ He was unmoved and moved his hands towards her.
She immediately moved, and shouted, ‘Don’t you dare to touch me…!’
He stared at her with a firmness, the eyes had the same look which she had seen the last night.
He observed her for a while and then said, ‘Kusumita, we are married for more than a month now. Don’t I have any rights as your husband?’
‘Not after what you did last night.’ She angrily shot back.
He then moved towards her. She stared at him unbelievingly as she remembered last night events, his eyes which so much wanted to punish her and now, she noticed the same anger returning on his face. She was scared, damn scared.
His fingers traced her lips, and without any expression on his face, he said, ‘Kusumita, I know I was wrong but last night you were wonderful. I want you.’
‘No, no way!’ She shuddered angrily as she realized what he intended.
‘I want you.’ He again repeated, didn’t remove his gaze from her. His looks, his eyes, his adamancy terrified her and she swiftly got down from the bed.
He was irked, and almost ran behind her and trapped her against the wall. She held her breath and waited nervously. His hands moved into her hair and started playing with her curls, she shirked away.
‘Don’t you dare again…!’ Her nostrils flared and her eyes glared.
He roared like a lion; his eyes flared as if he would kill her right there on the spot but she firmly stared into his eyes. Holding her breath, she waited for his next action but then he did not do anything and she made an attempt to come out of his embrace. To her surprise, he let her go.
She went to the bed, took the pillow an and made herself comfortable on the sofa. She tried to stay firm, keep her courage intact but was damn scared, probably confused.
Where she has landed in? He was like a puzzle to her now. She tried to put all blocks together to understand him but the more she thought more she was lost. She remembered what Mohit had said, she remembered Radhika, and her fears returned.
Through the corner of her eyes, she looked at him once again, who stood near the bed. He stared at her with anger, when a wild animal is denied his prey. She anxiously waited, but to her relief, he moved and went to sleep on the bed.
But the respite was for a few moments only, soon he got up from the bed, came near to her and lifted her in his arms. She was scared to death and struggled to release herself but his grip was stronger and very roughly he threw her on the bed.
Panicked, she quickly moved to one corner of the bed.
She waited for his next move, but she had decided that – ‘No, she cannot let him do it again to her. She cannot let him insult her womanhood again.’
Thinking hard, she looked for a way to escape out of the room but then she was stunned, without looking at her he took the pillow, went to the Sofa and slept on it.
She was now more puzzled.
